The bell goes and everyone stands up and leaves apart from Amy and William. William stands by Amy’s desk. She looks up at him. We see a bruise on her neck that we did not see when she entered.
You not leaving? The bell went, we
can go home.
I’d rather be at school. Nothing
good is waiting for me at home.
Nothing except my mother.
William looks at her with sorrow and pulls up a chair to her desk. She looks at him questioningly.
You could come to mine, nothing
waiting for me either. I don’t even
have a mother there.
We can swap lives if you want. I’d
prefer not to have a mother.
William spots the bruising and moves some of her hair, she moves out of the way from him. He gives her a worried look.
How did you get those bruises?
There is a knock at the door which interrupts their conversation. Susan is waiting at the door watching them.

William stands up and moves the chair back to where he got it from. He walked over to Susan and wraps his arm around her.
