Hell was rough sometimes. Well it was always rough, afterall it was Hell, but not this rough.
Angel danced on the pole. He enjoyed the exercise and he got paid for looking good while doing it. That wasn’t what bothered him. It was when people decided to get handsy.
Yes he was a porn star. Yes he had been known to occasionally (a lot of the time) offer his services to randomers on the street like a common slut.
What he didn’t like was how he was treated by his boss, Valentino. He couldn’t do anything about it.
Angel danced during the night, collecting money from many strangers who were just happy to see him. After his set he collected all his money and went backstage to count it.
“Let’s see how much you got” Valentino said, taking the wad of cash off Angel and counting it. He then pocketed the money without letting Angel know how much he’d earned. Angel didn’t get to keep the cash anyway. Tips weren’t how he got paid. If he wanted to get a tip he’d have to do a quick cash grab on the street.
He went home at roughly 3 am. His jacket open. He sat at the end of the bed and pulled his legs up to his chest. In his hand was a measly amount of money. Some notes that he’d crumbled up. That was his pay for the night. His pay for putting up with all that Valentino had done. His mind raced.
Morning time came and Cherri burst into his room.
“Man you look awful, have you not slept Angie?” She asked. He looked up at her. He hadn’t moved from his spot on the floor. She crouched down to his level. “Well I was going to ask if you wanted to come and blow up Pentious with me, but clearly you’re not up for that”
Angel looked up at her.
“What time is it?” He asked. Cherri looked at him and put her hand on his cheek.
“What did the f*cker do this time, Angie?” She seemed a lot softer than she usually was. That’s because she knew that when Angel was at his worst, he needed a little bit of compassion. Angel couldn’t say it. He struggled. But eventually he told her and she just looked angry.
“Cherri, I am okay. I swear. Please don’t go out there.” He told her. She didn’t listen and went out anyway. She always had this fantasy of kicking Valentino’s ass, but never got round to doing it.
Angel got up and chased after her. He grabbed her arm.
“Please don’t.” He said, he had tears forming in his eyes. She sighed and looked at him.
“Angie…” She hugged him. “Come on. Let’s go for a drink.” She told him. He nodded and left with her.
A few hours later they were both laughing together in the bar.
“Okay, Okay. Shag, Marry, Kill! Katie Killjoy, Lucifer, Vox?” Cherri asked. Angel laughed.
“I woulddd kill Katie. She kills all the fun in Hell” He laughed. “I’d Marry Lucifer. Heck yeah, I’d rule all of Hell.”
“That means you have to shag Vox” She pointed out.
“Oh sh*t yeah. I change my mind”
“Nope. Not allowed. You gotta shag Vox” Angel got up. “Where are you going?” She asked.
“I’m going to shag Vox.”
“You know you don’t actually have to. And Tino would kill you.” She said.
“Oh but it’ll be fun” He said. He stared at her. “Okay you’ve convinced me.” He laughed and went to the bar. He ordered a drink and sat on the stool. He started at her for a bit. Then everything went fuzzy.
“Angie?” Cherri shook him. He jumped and looked at her. “You were totally spaced out Angie. It started to freak me out. Maybe we should get you home.”
“Yeah.” He whispered.
“What were you thinking about?” She asked. He looked at her.
“I didn’t even know I was zoned out.” He admitted. “Everything just froze for a while.” He said.
Cherri took him back to his place and then made sure he got into bed. She didn’t want to leave but she did eventually.
Angel’s thoughts hurt him. His dreams were just memories. And they weren’t positive.
Angel danced on the pole. A rehearsal for the show tonight. Valentino was watching him. Rumour had it that Valentino was looking at cutting back some staff. Angel knew he was safe, he was one of Valentino’s favourite workers. Valentino walked up to Angel and put his finger under his chin.
“Come on” He told him. Angel nodded and followed him. It was always best if he just did as he was told.
He followed him to his office and Valentino pushed him up against the door as it shut. Angel looked at him.
“No.” Angel told him. Valentino looked at him.
“No?” He grabbed him harshly by the throat. “You didn’t even know what I was going to do. Why say no? You ungrateful little insect!”
Angel sat up panting. He held his head and started to cry. He went into the bathroom to wet his face and just looked at himself. He punched the mirror, smashing it. His hand bleeding from the shards. He winced and bent down to throw away the pieces.
“Great, something else to replace that I can’t afford.” He mumbled. He looked at a shard in his hand. And then everything went black.
He opened his eyes to see Husk sat by his side, wrapping up his arm. Nifty was cleaning away all the glass and Vaggie was wiping up blood from the floor. Charlie stood in the doorway with Alastor. They were staring at him.
“Why would you do something like that?” Charlie asked.
Before Angel could respond, Vaggie snapped at him.
“You scared Charlie half to death! Were you trying to give everyone a heart attack? You are paying for that mirror.” She seemed annoyed, but truth be told- she was just worried.
The hotel was rather awkward for a while. Obviously Angel felt guilty, but Vaggie also felt guilty for snapping at him when he clearly was feeling vulnerable. The two of them sat at the bar, being served cheep booze from Husk. Nifty had cleaned up the full room, so Angel didn’t have to be reminded of what happened.
“I’m sorry” Vaggie said. She wasn’t one to apologise, especially not to Angel. She was usually very upset with him. “Why didn’t you tell us you were struggling? We could have helped.”
“I wasn’t struggling. I don’t need help.” Angel told her, obviously not wanting to open up. “Thank you for apologising. That’s the first time I’ve ever heard you say that.” He got up.
Angel left the hotel and went into the streets. He had his arms crossed and was not feeling too great. He wasn’t wearing his own jacket, he had the pleasure of actually wearing Alastors on the condition that he got it dry cleaned and there were no blood stains or fur on it upon its arrival back to him. It was nice to know that everyone in the hotel actually cared about him to some degree, but the coat sort of trapped his arms. He left it open so he had movement but he didn’t move that much. He felt like crap.
His body ached as he entered the store to get some food. He had decided he was going to bring a load back since the hotel didn’t stock very much food for its… Well him. He was the only guest there still. Him and Fat Nuggets. Nuggs was happy enough though, Angel made sure of it.
There was a load of whispereing. Angel turned around to see if he could figure out where it came from- but he couldn’t. He rushed back to the Hotel, feeling as though he was being watched.
Valentino had angel by the throat. His hands were desperately trying to get the Moth demon’s hand off him.
“Val!” He croaked out, frightened. Valentino let go and Angel fell to his knees. He rubbed his throat.
“You do as your told Angel. The more you behave, the better things will be for you. You know I am the only one who
cares for you” Valentino caressed his cheek and then kissed him.
Angel kissed back, not wanting to be hurt again.
“Hell to Angel!” Charlie waved her hand in front of his face rapidly. “Helloooo.” He shook his head. He looked at her.
“Wha-” He looked around “When did I get back here?” He asked.
“About 5 minutes ago. You were very zoned out. Is everthing okay Angel?” She asked. She wanted her guest to be alright.
“I’m fine. Don’t you worry about me. It’s not like you
care for me is it” He laughed a little and went to his room. He sat on the bed and Nuggs curled up in his lap. “None of you truely care… just Val. He’s the only one. Isn’t that right Nuggs?” He spoke to his pig, who didn’t seem to agree.
Angel was lost. He looked at himself in the mirror, wearing Alastor’s coat. He decided to selfie it and upload the image online before taking it off.
“He can have this back” he said and got changed into the ‘nap sack’ tshirt that Cherri had bought him. She was his best friend, but he didn’t believe that she actually cared for him anymore either.
